Dear Texas Christian University, Administration & Staff….
One of the biggest problems consuming America is the refusal by many political pundits and the media to have an open and earnest conversation about race. They would rather adjudicate the transgressions of the past, and the present, in the name of political correctness by assigning guilt to anyone and everything that stands in contrast to their personal beliefs. The recent racial unrest in Ferguson and Baltimore goes far beyond ‘bad cops’ and their racist supporters. These events are a microcosm of the crime, animosity and apathy destroying our urban centers, if not all of America. Below are some eye-opening statistics from the national database on crime that are far more worthy of discussion than silencing the brazen opinion of one student.
Despite comprising only 13% of the total population, African Americans are responsible for roughly 50% of all murders and robberies – a staggering 93% of 9,000 black homicides committed each year – and account for 33% of all rapes and assaults nationwide. And yet over twice the number of whites are killed annually by cops. If the black community educated their sons and daughters not to continually run or resist arrest, or God forbid to reject crime altogether, even more would survive to fight another day in court.
Could have Mr. Vincent chosen his words more carefully and respectfully? Absolutely. However, considering the one-side narrative of the media is only fostering further distrust and discord across this nation, I believe his statement merely reflects the utter contempt and frustration of millions of Americans. We’re sick and tired of being the scapegoat for criminals, called “racist” for speaking the uncomfortable truths ignored by pop culture, rather than holding everyone to the same standard of accountability. The eroding urban epicenters of Detroit and Baltimore are not only prime examples of the failed leadership and victimization propaganda destroying the black communities, they’re becoming the primary pulpit for unscrupulous politicians like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Al Sharpton who choose to exploit tragedy instead of working tirelessly to prevent it. If you’re going to reprimand a student for speaking his mind on social media, please use due diligence to scour all posts, conversations, and any references made by those associated with TCU who voiced support for our President, the Blank Panthers, Al Sharpton, Black Lives Matter, Louis Farrakhan, Islam, and countless other racial activists who shameless distorted the truth, demeaned law enforcement, and racially stereotyped their fellow Americans in the name of social justice.
When freedom of speech comes with an asterisk, we’re no longer living in America. Tolerance is the quintessential American value. God Bless and thank you for your time.
