For as long as man has roamed the Earth, we have become exceedingly efficient at one thing….killing each other. Yet, no two people are born hating one another. They are taught how to hate. And if people are taught how to hate, they can be taught how to love. No religion, nationality or political ideology is worth looking in the eyes of another human being and taking their life in the name of blind spite or sheer righteousness. In the sky, there is no distinction between east and west; people create these divisions and believe them to be true.
Rather than dividing ourselves according to race, gender, wealth, affiliation or geography, we should remind ourselves we’re bound by common struggles and hopes. In other words, no matter how much we disagree or distrust one another, the solution has always been love, respect and temperance. It doesn’t cost money, you won’t find it on Black Friday and no celebrity endorsement is necessary. It simply resides in you. The antidote to hate is the one gift every man and woman has been blessed with since our creation…a heart to heal, to feel another’s pain, and a mind to digress from and alleviate our discord. The Kingdom of Heaven is within you, within us all, because it is here on Earth where we must make our stand; where virtue must rain and our children must grow tall. No God, in all his omnipotence and might, would grant mankind a sword to kill one of his children. And right now, that’s exactly who we are and how we’re behaving. Pray for Paris, but most of all, pray for a legacy that endures without refrain.
“Do not pity the dead, pity the dead; and above all else, pity those who live without love.”
