The Fire In Which We Burn

“We the People” are fueling a disturbing trend in this country by demonizing and dehumanizing those who do not share our political views. I find it ridiculous that more and more leaders, businesses, educational institutions and media networks are attempting to silence free speech – undermine one’s career, associates, and natural born rights – rather than respectfully discuss the merits and wisdom of one’s beliefs. I honestly do not hold any ill will against those who digress from my convictions as long as I’m treated with equal regard. In fact, I have a number of friends who couldn’t be more diametrically opposed politically and religiously. How we approach our differences and engage in earnest discourse is far more important than the perceived “winner” of an argument. We’re quickly becoming a savage nation of petulant children, drunken mothers cursing and fighting in the streets while holding their toddlers on their hips, who have no respect for their neighbor, themselves, and who possess little if any discernible intent of contributing to a moral and upright society. It’s truly scary…as if we are regressing into a primitive state of justifiable intolerance and insatiable hatred. Common courtesy, compassion and empathy do not discriminate…people do.

Call me naive or woefully out of touch, but basic decency and universal respect begins at home, exemplified by strong and caring parents who embody strength and love. This blatant decline in civility, if not personal accountability and a strong work ethic, can be directly attributed to broken homes and the erosion of family values…no matter how old fashioned or politically incorrect my assertion may seem in today’s hypersensitive climate. Everyone should try shaking the hand of their “perceived” enemy, focusing on the common hopes and struggles that bind all of humanity, before burying any hope of decorum and unity. I stand by my convictions, without fear or animosity, but selective persecution and blind malice threatens individual liberty and stains those timeless ideals centuries of Americans died to protect. The precedent we set is the fire which our children must eventually endure.

About The Conservative Depot

The Conservative Depot, the official literary artillery of Xavier Keough, is dedicated to defending & promoting the timeless conservative ideals America was founded upon: individual liberty, limited government, God, hard work, accountability and duty. In the growing fog of progressive propaganda - class, race, gender & religious warfare - we're arming America with the truth because common sense never killed anyone!
