“We the People” are fueling a disturbing trend in this country by demonizing and dehumanizing those who do not share our political views. I find it ridiculous that more and more leaders, businesses, educational institutions and media networks are attempting to silence free speech – undermine one’s career, associates, and natural born rights – rather than respectfully discuss the merits and wisdom of one’s beliefs. I honestly do not hold any ill will against those who digress from my convictions as long as I’m treated with equal regard. In fact, I have a number of friends who couldn’t be more diametrically opposed politically and religiously. How we approach our differences and engage in earnest discourse is far more important than the perceived “winner” of an argument. We’re quickly becoming a savage nation of petulant children, drunken mothers cursing and fighting in the streets while holding their toddlers on their hips, who have no respect for their neighbor, themselves, and who possess little if any discernible intent of contributing to a moral and upright society. It’s truly scary…as if we are regressing into a primitive state of justifiable intolerance and insatiable hatred. Common courtesy, compassion and empathy do not discriminate…people do.
