If the media spent as much time investigating the illicit activities and scandalous ties of Hillary Clinton as they do the crass or “mean” words of Donald Trump, she wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a ballot; for Treasurer of the PTA, no less. As long as the press continues to act with such reckless favoritism, a blatant disregard for the truth and the integrity of our elections, it is only a matter of time before some of the disgruntled masses take matters into their own hands. No, I’m not advocating or defending vigilante violence by any means. However, considering such negligent behavior can literally alter the course of history, the future of the people’s children and the country they love, many feel as if they are left with no other alternative except to exact some degree of responsibility.

Thus, only one final question remains: who’s fact checking the fact checkers of supposed reputable journalism? Or are “We the People” simply content leaving our most vital civil servants to destroy phones, emails, and private servers for the betterment of mankind? If only those peasants going to jail for unpaid parking tickets could harness such spontaneous immunity! The fundamental charter of the press is to question everyone and everything without duplicity or refrain; not to be the drooling lapdog of the status quo.
Without real checks and balances, a universal standard of accountability that demands objectivity and differentiates advocacy, the media can embody perhaps the deadliest form of tyranny. Propaganda’s greatest weapon is that it literally can overthrow a country’s founding ideals, demonize anyone who challenges the ruling party’s stranglehold on public opinion, without ever raising a fist or firing a gun. Regimes have been toppled and the kindling of war set ablaze by the mere provocation of flammable words. The power of suggestion, the art of fabricated outrage, can incite race riots, falsely justify cop shootings and glorify anthem protests to cultivate widespread anti-Americanism by selectively reporting the race of tragedy or grossly misrepresenting the records of the accused.
