It is well known ample public housing exists for the poor all across America. Therefore, why not build housing communities for homeless veterans near military bases or VA hospitals? Even closed bases could be renovated to shelter and care for these forgotten heroes needs, including the creation of skill centers offering potential educational and job opportunities to those who are still of able body and mind. In a nation as resourceful and wealthy as America, it’s unfathomable so many of our brave servicemen and women – those who risked their lives and stood vigil for freedom in the darkest corners of the world – are now eating scraps of leftovers and sleeping in alleyways like discarded newspapers. Simply unforgivable and unacceptable. If our government has the money and “moral” obligation to build modern detention centers for illegal immigrants, or to transport and provide for thousands of Syrian refugees, then our veterans deserve nothing less.
